In Brent Oman’s 26 years of experience at Gates Corporation, he has designed more drives than he can remember. As Manager of Power Transmission Product Application, he works closely with Marketing and Field Sales to support customers, commercialize products and keep Gates at the leading edge. He has supported the design of industrial applications such as conveyors, pumps and fans, as well as more custom solutions, including belt drives for motorcycle companies Harley-Davidson, Buell Motorcycle and Yamaha Motorcycle. He also spearheaded new belt designs in use on National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) supercharger drives. Previously, as Project Manager at Gates, Oman led efforts to produce DesignFlex 2Go! – an automated process facilitating ease and speed of drive design at customer locations.
Oman has extensive experience in the research and promotion of energy efficient synchronous belt drives. Not only does he deliver presentations to professional organizations on the topic, but he authored the Gates HVAC design guide, the result of years of customer work and data surveys to verify the energy savings of these drives.
He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University in 1984.
Veerasamy Venkatesan is the general manager of VGA Engineering Consultants, Inc., Orlando, Fla. He is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), and a U.S. Dept. of Energy approved specialist in assessing both steam and process-heating systems, qualifications possessed by only a few energy professionals in the U.S. He has more than 28 years of field experience related to plant operations and process engineering at chemical, petrochemical, refining and other facilities. He has successfully solved steam and thermal system problems at sites around the world.
Joe Radle is the Steam Trap Product Marketing Manager for Spirax Sarco, Inc. His professional career includes thirty-nine years service with Spirax Sarco. Joe Radle’s expertise includes designing and testing of new products, sizing and selecting steam system components, laying out new applications for controlling and draining steam utilizing process, and troubleshooting problems on customer steam systems both from the office and at customer site. His has educated customers at seminars and performed lab demonstrations. Joe Radle is a graduate of Northampton County Community College and is listed as the inventor on two US patents; one for the pressure power pump and the other for the TD52 thermodynamic steam. He is currently the Chairman of the Fluid Control Institute and sits on the steam section where they develop industry standards.
John Malinowski is the Senior Product Manager for AC Motors at Baldor Electric Company in Fort Smith, AR. Mr. Malinowski is a Senior Member of IEEE and is a member of the IEEE Industry Application Society. He serves on the IEEE Pulp & Paper Industry Committee, and is also active with IEEE Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee, Vice Chairman for the Chemical subcommittee and serves on several IEEE Standards Working Groups. He is Chairman of NEMA MG1 Motor & Generator Section, and Baldor’s representative for Energy Star Partners and the International Energy Agency’s Electric Motor Systems Annex of 4E (Efficient Electrical End-Use Equipment). Mr. Malinowski has published several articles on motor and drive efficiency, maintenance and applications. He acts as company advocate with government agencies, professional associations, and industry standards committees.
